Passerelle

A gangway from the stern to the quay.

A passerelle is the plank that connects a yacht berthed stern-to with the quay, and on anything above a small yacht it is hydraulic, telescopic and often rotating so it can be stowed in the transom. It is the feature that makes Mediterranean berthing practical, which is why it is standard on yachts sold there and often absent on boats built for American marinas, where berthing is alongside or bow-in.
