Sixty islands around a sheltered channel, the most-chartered waters in the world.
The BVI are built for chartering: the Sir Francis Drake Channel is protected on both sides, the islands are close enough to see the next anchorage from the last, and the trade wind arrives from the same direction every day. Tortola is the base; Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada are the reasons to leave it.
The islands recovered from the 2017 hurricanes with a smaller, better fleet, and the bareboat crowd shares the water with a growing number of crewed yachts. The US Virgin Islands are an hour to the west and often part of the same itinerary.
